Farmer’s Market Season is SO Back!
The Dillsburg Farmer’s Market is in full swing on the grounds of the Historic Dill’s Tavern. Rain or shine, this year there are the most vendors ever, setting up local goods and produce for you every Saturday. Running from 8 am-12 noon, you’ll want to make the Dillsburg Farmer’s Market part of your weekly routine!
While we are normally rolling up to market in our cafe truck to serve up iced coffees, smoothies, and treats, for now you can find us under a tent serving up hot coffees and our freshly baked gluten and dairy free goodies as we anxiously await the completion of the truck repairs! We love baking up your (and our) favorite seasonal treats like strawberry scones, strawberry shortcakes, and blueberry muffins. Every week we bring a different selection of goodies, no two markets are ever the same!
With Dillsburg’s strong agricultural legacy, the market is still full of, well, farmers!... like Heidi’s parents Mark and Brenda who run a local organic farm- Filey’s Pride! You may notice their produce in limited quantities in the fridge at the bakery cafe, but on Saturdays, their table is bursting with every home-grown veggie you can think of (picked that morning before the sun comes up)! They also sell nutrient dense, organic eggs by the dozen.
Eden Garden and Orchard also brings their veggies, but the stand-out is their fruits! You can smell their sweet aromas before even entering the booth… bright red strawberries, deep cherries, sweet blueberries, and eventually succulent peaches- all grown right down the road from the market. Eden also brings freshly baked breads, pies and preserves.
Att the market you can find freshly baked breads, honey, locally-raised meats, minimally processed cheeses, low-tox handmade soaps, freshly cut flowers, plants and much more! There is truly something for everyone to enjoy, even if it’s just the company of the friendly faces of vendors and regulars (like you!). The Dill’s Tavern often also has historic demonstrations including cooking in the period turtle brick oven to crafting brews in the Distillery.
Bring a friend, peruse the market, grab a breakfast sandwich and a seat at the picnic table and savor what it means to live in a small town that values community and connection. You are sure to leave feeling a little bit more hopeful about the world, filled up with the sounds and sights of Pennsylvania in the summertime.
